Northampton is world renowned for it's production of high quality bench made shoes, most of which are Goodyear Welted. Apart from strength and durability, one of the key benefits of a Goodyear Welt is the ability to remove an old worn down sole and apply a new one. This makes repairs and restoration commonplace on welted shoes where the high quality leather upper, in most cases, is likely to outlast it's original sole. It could be a favourite pair of shoes that have moulded to the owners feet, creating a unique patina to the leather, telling it's own story of personal wear over years. Repair and restoration gives the option of continuity over a fresh start.
What's not so commonplace is the repair and restoration of a loved, worn in pair of sneakers. At Crown we think of these casual styles as 'Luxury Sneakers' due to the level of craftsmanship that goes into each pair made in our Northampton factory. Only high quality premium suedes and calf leathers are used on our uppers, the same grade as what's used to produce bench made welted shoes. Rest assured that Crown Sneakers get better the more you wear them. The high grade leather ensures deep scuffs and lasting marks are very rare and they gradually soften over time to form the perfect fit.
For all of the above reasons you may want to choose our Resole & Insole option from our Shoe Care & Service menu when you feel your Crown Sneakers are in need of restoration. Included in this service is the careful removal of the original sole unit with a replacement then attached and stitched into place. A fresh pair of insoles are then added and a coat of polish is applied as a finishing touch.
