Our Stitchdown Collection is masterfully crafted in England from start to finish. The Woodford Desert Boot is a classic ankle height, 2 eyelet design based on a classic 1930's pattern. Sat atop a natural crepe sole that is extremely hardwearing, lightweight, and comfortable. The upper is made from English tanned Kude reverse suede from the world-famous Charles F Stead tannery in Leeds, UK. Selected for its thick tight fibre structure yet super soft feel. Internally the boot is unlined as the suede upper is moss backed to increase comfort. The footbed is traditionally half-lined with natural leather and a soft, cushioned heel pad.

One of the rarest suedes in the world, only the top grade is selected from each delivery of raw material to CF Steads in Leeds, England. On average, or every 250 to 300 skins, one is considered clean enough for the reverse suede, of those only 1/3 suitable for the lighter shades. The suede has a soft, luxurious look and feel, whilst offering reassuring strength and durability from its tight strong fibre structure. Each pair is carefully cut from individual skins with character that vary in size and shade.

The four main shoemaking stages once an order is placed...

Clicking

The ‘clicking’ or cutting process as it is also known is the very start of your shoes being made, the leather is cut into the shapes that make up your silhouette either by hand or on a press.

Closing

Once all the components of the shoe are cut they go through several processes that are essential to the construction then they are sewn together to make the upper.

Lasting

A last is a template form that is unique to each shoe size and style, the upper is pulled onto the last to give it the final shape of the shoe ready for a sole to be fitted. Once the sole is fitted the shoe will have it’s complete form.

Shoe Rooming

The final stage of the factory process your shoes go through the hands of our quality checkers and the finish is applied to the leather or suede to finish the shoe and ensure it looks it’s absolute best.
