The Turner is a two-eyelet shoe with distinctive apron seam design that also draws inspiration from lightweight jazz and dance shoes. Clean, simple, and versatile, the soft leather moulds to your foot, and the sole flexes with natural movement. The handmade natural leather lined upper sits atop a custom-cut Vibram sole unit in a choice of black, white, or gum colour, which are able to be resoled at our Northampton factory if required at a later date. Between the insole and outsole, the shoe features a layer of cork filling which is usually only found in high-quality, hand-made dress shoes. This process acts in a similar way to memory foam, adding comfort and support as your foot gradually beds into the shoe, leaving a subtle and lasting personal imprint of the wearer's feet. This unisex style can be worn with several different smart or casual outfits and the lightweight feel makes this a perfect everyday or travel shoe. Signed off with handwritten internal style notes, our entire Jazz Collection is handmade to order at our factory in Northampton, England.

Calf leather is a very popular choice when ordering footwear. Known as a premium grade leather that is firm and even whilst offering a consistent finish across the hide, calf sometimes carries a fine grain or it can be completely smooth depending on the finishing process. Some key features of calfskin are it’s soft and supple feel which makes it ideal for footwear as it can move and flex with the wearer, it’s signature fine grain that gives a high-quality finish, and importantly it’s durability whilst also remaining lightweight. At Crown Northampton, we pride ourselves on only using the finest materials available and we carefully select the ideal calfskin finish and firmness, based on the style that we are making. With our factory located in the world-famous footwear heartland of Northampton, we’re privileged to source leathers from the best leather merchants in England. We only select first-grade calf suede and leather from English tanneries such as CF Stead alongside the finest Italian tanneries.

The four main shoemaking stages once an order is placed...

Clicking

The ‘clicking’ or cutting process as it is also known is the very start of your shoes being made, the leather is cut into the shapes that make up your silhouette either by hand or on a press.

Closing

Once all the components of the shoe are cut they go through several processes that are essential to the construction then they are sewn together to make the upper.

Lasting

A last is a template form that is unique to each shoe size and style, the upper is pulled onto the last to give it the final shape of the shoe ready for a sole to be fitted. Once the sole is fitted the shoe will have it’s complete form.

Shoe Rooming

The final stage of the factory process your shoes go through the hands of our quality checkers and the finish is applied to the leather or suede to finish the shoe and ensure it looks it’s absolute best.
