Our Stitchdown Collection is masterfully crafted in England by hand - From start to finish. The Woodford Desert Boot is a classic ankle height, 2 eyelet design based on a classic 1950's pattern. Sat atop a natural crepe sole that is extremely hardwearing, lightweight, and very comfortable. The upper is made from rich Chromexcel leather from the world-famous Horween tannery in Chicago USA, known for their extremely high-quality materials. Internally the boot is unlined as the leather upper is self backed which increases wearer comfort. The footbed is traditionally half lined with natural leather and a soft, cushioned heel pad. The Woodford Desert Boot goes through several complex and skilled processes before completion and none more important than the stitchdown welting stage. This process uses a Number 10 sole stitcher - an integral machine used in making traditional Northampton shoes and boots. Furthermore, this provides the bold stitching used to secure the natural crepe sole and the technique also ensures the boots remain strong and flexible.

When wearing premium leather from the world-famous Horween leather company in Chicago, USA, you go on a journey. Due to their unique finishing processes, Horween leathers are quite firm on first wear, but then break in gradually, softening and moulding to the wearer's foot to create the perfect fit. Founded in 1905, Horween's secret blend of natural oils and family processes have been passed down through the generations. Known for their exclusive Chromexcel, Cavalier, Essex and Shell Cordovan leather collections, Horween leathers have a soft and smooth handle, restoring itself when marked. It also has extreme longevity and wears in over time, creating beautifully unique patinas. Crown Northampton are honoured to work with leathers from the world class Horween Company tanne

The four main shoemaking stages once an order is placed...

    Clicking

The ‘clicking’ or cutting process as it is also known is the very start of your shoes being made, the leather is cut into the shapes that make up your silhouette either by hand or on a press.

    Closing

Once all the components of the shoe are cut they go through several processes that are essential to the construction then they are sewn together to make the upper.

    Lasting

A last is a template form that is unique to each shoe size and style, the upper is pulled onto the last to give it the final shape of the shoe ready for a sole to be fitted. Once the sole is fitted the shoe will have it’s complete form.

    Shoe Rooming

The final stage of the factory process your shoes go through the hands of our quality checkers and the finish is applied to the leather or suede to finish the shoe and ensure it looks it’s absolute best.
