D13 - Dark Green Horween Shell Cordovan

Posted by Crown Northampton on

The day is here. We have been looking forward to unveiling our Summer 2025 limited edition release: 20 to 25 pairs of our Harlestone Derby and new Oxford sneaker, made in deep green Horween Shell Cordovan, with 20 matching feather edge belts to accompany them. These drops are always a labour of love, and it means a great deal to us to see how much they continue to resonate with our community.

Each sneaker is hand-numbered and available with a choice of gum, off white, or black sole. Belts can be ordered with either an antique silver or gold buckle.

Previous editions have sold quickly, and this drop is likely to be no exception. If you are not already on our mailing list, we recommend signing up for early notice of releases like this one.

A Historical Pattern in a Historical Leather

As with all our limited editions, the colour was selected well in advance. We timed this release to coincide with the arrival of our new Oxford pattern, and the green delivered could not have been a better match.

Each batch of Shell Cordovan varies depending on how the leather absorbs the tannins during Horween’s six month tanning process. This one has produced a deep, even green with subtle blue undertones. It is a rich and adaptable shade that works well across a broad spectrum of outfits. Closely aligned with British Racing Green, the colour carries a sense of heritage that connects naturally to British motorsport, tailoring, and craftsmanship. It feels entirely at home within the Crown range, equally suited to both the Oxford and Derby silhouettes.

Green is one of the few colours Horween is able to produce in Shell Cordovan that falls outside the traditional earthy palette. As with all batches, this one contains subtle natural variation across each shell. We have carefully selected and paired them to match as closely as possible while preserving the distinct personality of each piece. These are true one offs, shaped to respond to the way light moves across the surface of the leather.

A total of twenty to twenty five sneakers will be made across both the Harlestone and Oxford patterns, along with twenty matching belts. Each is handcrafted in Northampton and supported by linings, components, and construction that are built to last many a resole.

The Oxford Abbey Cordovan Pattern

The Oxford Cordovan is the latest addition to our Hand Stitch Collection. While it shares a silhouette with our existing Abbey Unlined, it is a different shoe in structure and feel. Fully lined and made from Horween Shell Cordovan, it offers greater definition and support underfoot. It also features our signature dog tail detail at the heel, which is not present on the Abbey due to the nature of unlined construction.

This new version brings a more formal presence to the collection, while retaining the balance and restraint that defines Crown design. For those already wearing the Abbey, the Oxford Cordovan will offer a different feel and finish.

If you prefer a more relaxed Derby style, the Harlestone remains a staple in the D13 release. Its open-laced construction and curved apron continue to define our take on the minimal sneaker.

The Details Behind the D13

Shell Cordovan may lead the story, but every part of the D13 is held to the same standard. Each material is selected with attention, and nothing is added without purpose:

  • Veg tanned linings and insoles offer breathability, comfort, structural integrity
  • Oak bark tanned components provide structure and help shape the shoe naturally
  • Lactae Hevea soles bring lightness, cushioning, and a naturally responsive feel underfoot.

Everything is made in our Northampton factory by a team that understands the relationship between materials, pattern, and fit. From the design table to the factory floor, each pair moves through skilled hands that know exactly what they are building, and why.

Sizing Support

Each pair in this release represents months of preparation, from Horween’s long tanning process to the careful sourcing of matching Shells and the time-intensive build in our Northampton workshop. Considerable effort goes into making these shoes available, and we want each pair to feel right the moment it reaches you.

If you are unsure about sizing, we are always happy to help. For limited releases like this, we recommend placing your order first to secure your pair. Just leave a note in the cart if you need guidance, and our team will get in touch before production begins.

Because our customer service team works directly from within the factory, there is a close connection between production and support. That helps ensure your experience is as considered as the shoes themselves.

Details That Complete the Drop

Each pair in the D13 release includes a complementary polish to help you care for the leather from the very first wear. You will also receive £50 off the price of any matching Shell Cordovan belt purchased with your order.

In addition, this release grants access to our Cordovan Off-Cuts Collection, a small series of one-off accessories made from the remaining pieces of Shell Cordovan used in this drop and other stocked colours. Every cut is put to good use, ensuring that this rare material is honoured in full!

D13 is now available. We look forward to making your pair.
