At Crown Northampton, new products stem from the exceptional materials we use and the shoemaking expertise within our Northampton factory. With the Everdon Rambler, we’ve also drawn on everyday challenges beyond the workshop. It’s something a little different, yet undeniably Crown - blending our craftsmanship with the versatility needed for wherever your path leads.
A Few Years in the Making
Testing our products thoroughly is key. Each sneaker goes through real-world wear and tear, often requiring a resole or two before launch. A few years back, our owner and designer, Chris, took up the challenge of testing a pair of Everdon whole cut sneakers by wearing them on his daily walks with his dog, Forrest. These walks covered everything from roads to muddy fields - conditions far more rugged than our buffalo sneakers were initially intended for.
After hundreds of miles, only one serious challenge emerged: a particularly steep, muddy hill. While most people won’t be trekking through muddy fields in carefully crafted Buffalo leather sneakers, this experience inspired a new concept. What if we adapted what we already do so well into something even more versatile? Something that could handle the demands of the trail but still look sharp for a city walk?
After a year of testing and refinement, we’re proud to introduce the result of those miles: The Everdon Rambler. A boot designed for all seasons - whether you’re on the road, the trail, or slightly off the beaten path.
The Everdon Rambler has been put through its paces. Thanks to days of walking Forrest the dog in all weathers.
The Technical Details
The Everdon Rambler is a whole cut boot, a design that has deep roots in Chris’s family, spanning from Victorian-era shoe-making competitions to today’s Crown Northampton sneakers. The whole cut design isn’t just about aesthetics - it’s also incredibly functional, offering water resistance thanks to the lack of seams and joins, making it perfect for rambling!
To adapt the Everdon for a little more adventure, we’ve made a few simple yet effective adjustments. We added D-rings and speed hooks for easier lacing and swapped out the Lactae Hevea sole for something with more grip - ideal for both city streets and countryside trails.
For the Rambler, we’ve chosen three of the finest materials from the world-renowned Horween tannery:
- Chromexcel and buffalo leather, both selected for their durability and water resistance.
- Olive oil-tanned Bison, a new addition, as thick and durable as chromexcel but softer and with a strong grain that varies across the skin meaning no two pairs are the same.
Our trusted lining leather and components are perfect for the Rambler. These thick, durable Veg and Oak bark-tanned leathers have been used for centuries in the most reliable boots and shoes. Complemented by our cork filler, which moulds to your foot alongside the thick leather insole, they ensure comfort and longevity for many miles to come.
Adapted for adventure. The Everdon Rambler includes D-rings and speed hooks for quick and easy lacing; and increased the grip with the addition of Vibram soles.
Versatile Fit, Built to Last
Just like our other footwear, the Everdon Rambler is available in three standard fittings: narrow (E), standard (F), and wide (G), with even wider options available upon request. And when your Rambler boots need a break, our resole and refurb service is always available, ready to keep you rambling for years.
Built for Every Season
The Rambler has been tested in all conditions - Summer, Spring, Autumn, and Winter. This isn’t a boot designed for one season or one specific need. We design and make footwear that’s built to be used - and to last. Whether you’re exploring a new city or taking a trip through the countryside, the Everdon Rambler is made for the journey.
