The Abington is a handmade premium sneaker with derby construction and an oversized leather toe cap design that draws inspiration from vintage baseball and basketball footwear.

Double stitched at pressure points for added strength, all stitching to the upper is otherwise hidden throughout and finished with subtle blind eyelet lacing and a soft padded collar. Fully lined with luxuriously soft natural leather, complete with extremely comfortable hand-finished Crown Northampton insoles. The custom-made Crown Northampton sole unit offers strength, durability, and comfort all in a lightweight base which is then securely attached with sidewall stitching, allowing for resoling in our factory at a later date if required. Further details include a Crown embossed padded tongue, premium waxed laces, handwritten internal style notes, and an extra set of insoles that can be placed underneath the existing insoles to help tailor the fit if necessary.

The sneaker collection is handmade to order in our Northampton, England factory using only the finest leathers sourced from some of the best tanneries in the world such as CF Stead in Leeds, England, and the Horween Company in Chicago, USA.

When wearing premium leather from the world-famous Horween leather company in Chicago, USA, you go on a journey. Due to their unique finishing processes, Horween leathers are quite firm on first wear, but then break in gradually, softening and moulding to the wearer's foot to create the perfect fit. Founded in 1905, Horween's secret blend of natural oils and family processes have been passed down through the generations. Known for their exclusive Chromexcel, Cavalier, Essex and Shell Cordovan leather collections, Horween leathers have a soft and smooth handle, restoring itself when marked. It also has extreme longevity and wears in over time, creating beautifully unique patinas. Crown Northampton are honoured to work with leathers from the world class Horween Company tannery.

The four main shoemaking stages once an order is placed...

    Clicking

The ‘clicking’ or cutting process as it is also known is the very start of your shoes being made, the leather is cut into the shapes that make up your silhouette either by hand or on a press.

    Closing

Once all the components of the shoe are cut they go through several processes that are essential to the construction then they are sewn together to make the upper.

    Lasting

A last is a template form that is unique to each shoe size and style, the upper is pulled onto the last to give it the final shape of the shoe ready for a sole to be fitted. Once the sole is fitted the shoe will have it’s complete form.

    Shoe Rooming

The final stage of the factory process your shoes go through the hands of our quality checkers and the finish is applied to the leather or suede to finish the shoe and ensure it looks it’s absolute best.
