The Abbey Unlined Sneaker is the third addition to Crown Northampton’s Hand Stitch Collection. A casual style that’s perfect for warmer weather and feels comfortable from the off, only getting better with wear and age.

As with the other styles in the Hand Stitch Collection, the Abbey sits on a sidewall-stitched Lactae Hevea outsole and cork-filled midsole. Instead of the black English calf found on many historic examples, our sneakers are constructed using a buttery soft leather from the Horween tannery and left completely unlined for maximum comfort and flexibility.

While we’ve kept the exterior minimal, in keeping with our design philosophy, the Abbey is packed full of intricate construction details. A baby calf leather toe puff sandwiched neatly inside a split in the upper to add structure, French bound edges to keep things nice and tidy, and our signature hand-sewn stitching across the throatline for strength.

The four main shoemaking stages once an order is placed...

Clicking

The ‘clicking’ or cutting process as it is also known is the very start of your shoes being made, the leather is cut into the shapes that make up your silhouette either by hand or on a press.

Closing

Once all the components of the shoe are cut they go through several processes that are essential to the construction then they are sewn together to make the upper.

Lasting

A last is a template form that is unique to each shoe size and style, the upper is pulled onto the last to give it the final shape of the shoe ready for a sole to be fitted. Once the sole is fitted the shoe will have it’s complete form.

Shoe Rooming

The final stage of the factory process your shoes go through the hands of our quality checkers and the finish is applied to the leather or suede to finish the shoe and ensure it looks it’s absolute best.
