The Harlestone sneaker is the original Hand Stitch style. Made with derby construction and open-faced lacing, the upper mirrors the look, feel and finish of high-quality dress shoes. Minimal and understated with no unnecessary detail or branding, the Harlestone sets the benchmark for handmade ‘Dress Sneakers’ that are often copied but never matched. A classic silhouette and design that sits effortlessly between smart and casual and is equally at home paired with everyday trousers or a tailored suit. Finished with signature double stitch detail to the front and rear that provide added strength at pressure points, hand stitching is a traditional process that has been used throughout Northampton shoemaking history. Only the very best materials are used to make the Harlestone - Inside and out.

Horween buffalo leather is tanned in the US in a similar way to Chromexcel with a combination of both vegetable and chrome tanning. Through these processes, the buffalo is naturally shrunken down from around 30ft to 20ft when finished. This skilled process pulls the fibres together tight, making them very tough and durable. Each skin retains its own personal ruggedness which results in a pronounced grain that can vary in size across the surface. As the skins are purposely left natural straight out of the tanning drum and not embossed for a uniform finish, the true character of each skin shines through, making each pair of sneakers or shoes made from the material completely unique. The Horween Company is hugely respected and continues to deliver the very best leather available in the world through complex tanning processes and secret family methods.

The four main shoemaking stages once an order is placed...

    Clicking

The ‘clicking’ or cutting process as it is also known is the very start of your shoes being made, the leather is cut into the shapes that make up your silhouette either by hand or on a press.

    Closing

Once all the components of the shoe are cut they go through several processes that are essential to the construction then they are sewn together to make the upper.

    Lasting

A last is a template form that is unique to each shoe size and style, the upper is pulled onto the last to give it the final shape of the shoe ready for a sole to be fitted. Once the sole is fitted the shoe will have it’s complete form.

    Shoe Rooming

The final stage of the factory process your shoes go through the hands of our quality checkers and the finish is applied to the leather or suede to finish the shoe and ensure it looks it’s absolute best.
